The CINE-GEOGRAPHY SOCIALIST | AFRICA — EASTER EUROPE programme returns to the festival, curated by researcher Iolanda Vasile, founder of the NGO South Talks

The programme will host a screening of the documentary “Journey…far away from Africa” by Traian Cocoș and Răzvan Marchiș, followed by a talk with Iolanda Vasile. This talk will be based on her research into the links that the Socialist Republic of Romania had with various countries on the African continent between 1965 and 1989, where Iolanda Vasile will discuss how educational exchanges, mainly in cinema, but also in other areas, contributed to the political transitions on the African continent, laying the foundations for the post-colonial transition process. The programme is supported by the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra, through the EDU-AM project.

This programme will take place on the 30th of September from 15h in Casa Comum.

BEAST – International Film Festival will be hosted across a range of venues throughout Porto, including Batalha – Centro de Cinema, Cinema Trindade, Cinema Passos Manuel, Casa das Artes, and OKNA – Espaço Cultural with the intention of bringing together both visiting and local cinema audiences. In addition to the more than 100 selected films, the festival’s programme extends to a series of exhibitions, workshops, and panel events.
