School Visit

The Deutsche Film-und Fernsehakademie Berlin was founded in 1966 and is one of Germany‘s most renowned film academies. The DFFB is owned solely by the state of Berlin and is a fully state-funded, completely non-profit limited liability company (GmbH) that exclusively pursues charitable objectives. As a home of artistic education, it trains students in the arts of Directing, Screenwriting, Cinematography, Producing and Editing & Sound.

The DFFB offers a combination of tradition and innovation that makes it a key location for shaping the future of film – a legacy that has been making continuous progress ever since 1966. With more than 100 films produced each year, the DFFB is a creative hotbed for all kinds of different genres.

Many of the first students to attend the DFFB went on to become prominent figures in the industry. Many of the films produced by DFFB students and alumni have been presented with awards at internationally renowned film festivals.

In collaboration with DFFB, BEAST presents a two-part program featuring works by former students Nicole Medvecka, Borbála Nagy, Ewelina Rosinska, and Xandra Popescu.

FAMU

The Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU) ranks among the oldest and the best European film schools, offering students not only traditional film departments, but also the opportunity to pursue careers in modern audiovisual fields such as game design and new media. During its 80 years of existence, FAMU has contributed to the education of many important film personalities and is also one of the founding members of CILECT, an organization that brings together film schools from around the world. Every year, FAMU produces over 400 film exercises, from short etudes to feature-length films, many of which participate in prestigious international festivals and screenings.
Celebrating FAMU’s 80th anniversary, BEAST presents a “10 years best of” programme. Spanning different periods and emotional landscapes, moving from turbulence to joy, from adolescence to the final moments of adulthood, the programme showcases a diverse selection from one of the region’s most important film schools.
