COMMUNITY RADIO
RÁDIO QUÂNTICA BROADCAST | PARALLEL EVENT
We are drawn to sounds that bring us closer to home, or closer to the stories that shape who we are. Music, for example, has a way of holding memory, creating intimacy, and connecting us to places, people, and feelings we carry with us. Community radios hold a special place in this landscape. They are more than platforms for music, they are spaces of care, exchange, and artistic freedom. They create room for independent voices, local scenes, and shared experiences to exist and grow. In a world that often feels increasingly fragmented, community radios remain a safe haven for community building, experimentation, and cultural expression.
BEAST International Film Festival and Rádio Quântica present a joint initiative connecting Portugal with several community radios from CEE. A collaboration with members of ICRN network [IDA Radio (Estonia), Tīrkultūra (Latvia), Mutant Radio (Georgia), Radio Vilnius (Lithuania), Lahmacun Radio (Hungary), Cashmere Radio (Germnay), 20ft (Ukraine)], as well as Black Rhino (Romania) and Radio Kapital (Poland).
During the festival, Rádio Quântica will broadcast a series of shows from each station, offering a glimpse into each of their curatorial essence.
Tune in: June 6 & 7 | Rádio Quântica
As part of this initiative, and to strengthen the exchange between stations – as well as with members of the audience – , an online gathering will be held, in order to create a space for a deeper understanding of modes of operation, sharing practices, concerns and aspirations with representatives of some of these community radios.
LET’S TALK! COMMUNITY RADIO: June 5 | 7pm | Café Bar (Batalha – Centro de Cinema).
Rádio Quântica is a Lisbon-based community radio and cultural platform, founded in 2015 as a non-profit for voices often marginalised by mainstream media. Operating in the ‘blind spot’ of conventional music media, the station provides a safe haven for underground artists, queer and feminist collectives, and cultural agitators. It broadcasts 24/7, runs workshops, book and film launches and a festival that promotes both emerging artists and established ones from the local scene, promoting inter-generational programming and dynamics.
